Project 02: Gensler DXD
CLIENT / GENSLER
The following is a solo, semester-long project done for a course at the University of Texas at Austin in the School of Design and Creative Technologies. The course is a collaboration between the department and the world-renowned design firm, Gensler.
I've worked on the following:
-
Brand identity integration
-
Motion graphic integration for a 26ft x 13ft professional display
-
Apple ProRes 4444 composition

The theme of this project was sustainability. This piece focuses on the efforts that Gensler makes to bring forth projects that are sustainable throughout its many stages. A key feature of the piece is Gensler's Cities Climate Challenge, a company-wide initiative to create processes within projects with the goal of creating net carbon impacts. Additionally, three Austin-based projects are featured in this motion piece that emphasized the sustainable processes that Gensler have implemented within their construction.

Researching
Before creating a rough idea of what I needed to do for this project I needed to know what I was going to showcase to the viewer. For this, I created a list of key points that would fit within the theme of sustainability. From there, I was able to land on the idea of showcasing three sustainable Gensler projects in the Austin area. The essential information from each of these projects was gathered and then the storyboarding process began.

The original idea was to make a 2-minutes long animated infographic that followed a linear narrative and composition. This idea transitioned to a kinetic infographic wall with tiles displaying bits of information and iconography that moves around and transitions between the showcased projects.

Storyboarding
With the necessary projects and their data gathered, I started to work on the overall design philosophy of the piece. During this phase, I experimented and drafted many possible layouts that could be used to showcase illustration and information.
